Slumping Columbus Crew SC suffered another body blow this week, as the club announced on Friday that key midfielder and club legend Federico Higuain will undergo ACL reconstruction following an injury suffered during Crew SC’s 3-2 road loss to the Colorado Rapids last week.
Higuain, 34, is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2019 season. The Argentinean playmaker, a fulcrum of Columbus’ attack, has recorded one goal and five assists in 14 league appearances this year.
The news marks another heavy setback for a club currently scuffling through a 1-8 skid that’s seen them plummet down the MLS Eastern Conference standings.
