AMSTERDAM – Premier League misery continued on Monday for Brad Guzan and Aston Villa, who fell for the seventh straight time in a 3-1 loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Trouble started for the away defense before three minutes had passed, with Moussa Dembele able to spin his defender at the six-yard box and fire home through Guzan's legs. In the 25th minute, the US netminder rallied to push a slightly deflected Harry Kane effort over the frame.
However, Spurs struck again just before halftime, with a weak Villa clearance punished by Dele Alli on the half-volley. Villans sub Jordan Ayew pulled one back late, but Kane curled home the insurance tally in stoppage time to keep the visitors winless in league play since opening day.
In all, Guzan notched three saves and caught a pair of crosses, but the usual breakdowns at the back and several good chances squandered at the other end conspired to keep Villa in the cellar.
