TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension
Atlanta United and goalkeeper Brad Guzan have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the club announced Monday.
Guzan, 35, joined Atlanta during their inaugural season after nearly a decade in England. A stalwart through the club's first three seasons, Guzan has made 81 regular season appearances as he's helped lead Atlanta to MLS Cup, U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup triumphs.
“Brad has been one of the top goalkeepers in MLS since joining our team in the summer of 2017 and we are pleased to have agreed to a long-term contract extension,” Atlanta United VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “Brad epitomizes the type of professional player we want at Atlanta United, and as a key member of the US men’s national team, we hope to see him represent our club at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He’s thoroughly deserved this extension and we look forward to him anchoring our team for years to come.”
Before joining Atlanta, Guzan made 154 Premier League appearances, mainly with Aston Villa as well as Middlesbrough. Prior to that, Guzan spent three and a half seasons with Chivas USA, where he won 2007 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He also has 64 appearances with the US national team.
Guzan and Atlanta open their 2020 campaign on Feburary 18 in the Concacaf Champions League against Motagua before kicking off their MLS season on February 29 against Nashville SC.
