TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
CF Montreal have acquired Norwegian international forward Bjorn Johnsen from South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai, the club announced Wednesday. Johnsen is under contract through 2022 with a club option for 2023.
Johnsen, 29, had made 16 appearances with Norway. He was born in America before moving to Norway during his youth. He has spent his career globetrotting, appearing for eight clubs in eight countries prior to Montreal.
“We are pleased with the acquisition of such a seasoned player, with extended experience in Europe and Asia”, sporting director Olivier Renard said in a club statement. “Bjørn is a big and very mobile striker. He has shown his capacity to score goals in all the clubs he has played for in the past, and with the Norwegian national team.”
The forward, standing at a towering 6'5", had 11 goals and two assists in 33 appearances with Ulsan Hyundai. He enjoyed his most successful season in 2017/18 with ADO Den Haag, with 19 goals in 34 Eredivisie appearances.
Johnsen adds to Montreal's attacking options, which already includes Mason Toye, Romell Quioto and Sunusi Ibrahim.
