The Chicago Fire tabbed their first win of the 2019 preseason on Wednesday in Madrid, defeating Spanish third-tier side CF Fuenlabrada 1-0 at the Estadio Fernando Torres.
Winger Aleksandar Katai scored his second goal in as many games, whipping a long-range strike into the top right corner in the second half. After combining with Raheem Edwards on the left side of Fuenlabrada’s penalty box, Katai cut inside and hammered a right-footed shot into the upper 90.
The win marks the Fire’s final preseason match in Spain; the Men in Red return to Chicago on Thursday, then travel to Charleston, South Carolina on Monday to compete against the Charleston Battery, FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew SC in the Carolina Challenge Cup.
