The Colorado Rapids could be without leading scorer Deshorn Brown on Friday against Chivas USA after the striker went down with a right groin strain during last Friday night’s 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers at Providence Park.
The 23-year-old Jamaican international has been listed as questionable after coming up hobbling in the 20th minute in Portland and was forced to be substituted off just four minutes later, with backup Danny Mwanga taking in his place.
Brown has been instrumental to the Rapids attack, particularly over the last two months, as his six goals scored over his last 10 MLS matches helped Colorado improve their once floundering offense.
The second-year man scored the Rapids’ lone goal on Friday night, finishing off Drew Moor’s header off a corner in the 16th minute. Overall, Brown has looked impressive this year, building off a 10-goal rookie campaign in 2013 that earned him runner-up honors for the MLS Rookie of the Year award.
If Brown is forced to miss time, Gabriel Torres, Mwanga and Edson Buddle could all figure to see additional playing time. Torres has looked improved in recent substitute performances and has also drawn head coach Pablo Mastroeni’s praise for his work in practice.
