Fresh off winning MLS Cup 2020, Columbus Crew SC continue to near completion of their downtown stadium. Just yesterday, the club installed the final piece of the steel canopy and structure for their new ground.
The beam, which is 36 feet long, was painted black and signed by the nearly 400 construction workers on site. Other signatories included members of the Haslam and Edwards ownership families, as well as Crew SC front office and soccer and business operations leadership staff.
The new Crew Stadium remains on schedule to open in July 2021, with the scoreboards and ribbon board installation set for the coming weeks. Other steps include the stadium seating, while the field installation is scheduled for the spring.
As Columbus prepare to depart Mapfre Stadium during the 2021 season, their new soccer-specific ground is expected to seat 20,000. It’ll have a grass surface and shift Crew SC games closer to the city’s urban hub.
