After making his debut in 2011 as a 16-year-old and 217 MLS appearances later, Diego Fagundez believes his time with the New England Revolution is up. But the club don't feel the same.

Fagundez gave an interview with Sport 890 in which he said he's "doing as much as I can" to force his way out of New England to Uruguay's Nacional. But, after his quote went viral, Fagundez spoke with reporters on Tuesday to clarify his words while admitting that the Revs have declined a transfer offer from Nacional.

“If everybody in the party was happy, of course I’m going to go,” Fagundez said. “How can I say no? “[Nacional] plays in [Copa] Libertadores, they play clásicos. It’s different. But the Revs already made a decision. I had nothing to do with it because I’m under contract, so it was an easy way for me to go with it.”

Fagundez's father and agent sparked speculation in October when he wrote a tweet suggesting that his son's last game in New England would be last season's Decision Day.

The 23-year-old has 50 goals and 43 assists in those 217 league appearances for the Revs. He started 30 games in 2018 with 9 goals and 10 assists, the second-most goals and assists for Fagundez in a season throughout his career.

Fagundez was the first Homegrown field player to log 10,000 minutes in MLS and youngest player to record 100 appearances and 25 goals in league history.
