The Dunga days are over for Brazil.
The Brazilian federation announced on Tuesday that they have fired Dunga after he failed to get Brazil out of the group stage at the Copa America Centenario. Brazil finished third in Group B with a 1-1-1 record, missing out on the quarterfinals after losing in controversial fashion to Peru on Sunday night.
The news brings an end to Dunga’s second stint as Brazil manager. A player on the Brazil team that won the 1994 World Cup, Dunga took over the Seleção following the 2014 World Cup, guiding them to a fifth-place finish at the 2015 Copa America in Chile and leaving the team in sixth-place in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. He first managed Brazil from 2006 through the 2010 World Cup.
Dunga is the second manager to leave his post following an early exit at the Copa America Centenario. Ramon Diaz resigned as Paraguay manager after the country was eliminated from the tournament following their 1-0 loss to the US in Group A action on Saturday.
