Inter Miami Eyes MLS Points Record
Inter Miami CF looks to cap off a historic 2024 regular season by adding another feather in their cap – the single-season MLS points record. The current record is held by the New England Revolution, who produced 73 points in 2021, breaking the previous record held by LAFC (72 in 2019). The Herons have the opportunity to eclipse the mark on Saturday if they are to defeat the current record holders, New England, at Chase Stadium (6 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
For Miami, the opportunity to set the points record may not have been possible if it weren’t for their own upset on Decision Day in 2021. New England had already set the points record entering the final matchday of the season and was aiming to eclipse the 75-point mark by defeating Miami at home. The Herons had other plans, winning 1-0 at Gillette Stadium. Now three years later, they have the chance to capitalize in front of their home fans.
The Revs can play the role of spoiler by getting a result on the road and protecting their remarkable 2021 season, in which they went 22-5-7. In their only three meetings in Miami, New England has won once, which was a convincing 5-0 victory on July 21, 2021 that kickstarted their path to the points record.
The most points by a club in a single season in MLS history:
Benteke Nearing Golden Boot and Club Record
Entering Decision Day, D.C. United’s Christian Benteke leads all scorers with 23 goals on the season, four more than LAFC’s Denis Bouanga (19) and the Columbus Crew’s Cucho Hernández (19). If Benteke were to hold on to the scoring title, he would become just the third player in D.C. United history to win the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi, joining Dwayne De Rosario (2011) and Luciano Emilio (2007).
Benteke’s 23 goals are tied for the most in a single season in club history alongside Raúl Díaz Arce in 1996. With one more goal, the Belgian forward would set the single-season club record and also record the most goals in a season across MLS since Carlos Vela’s 34 in 2019. D.C. will look to wrap up a playoff spot with Benteke leading the line against Charlotte FC on Saturday at Audi Field (6 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).

Galaxy Look to Make History of Their Own in Final Match
2024 has been a historic season for the LA Galaxy, who enter Decision Day as the top team in the Western Conference and having already clinched a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. By producing a result on the road against Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday (9 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV), they would guarantee home-field advantage all the way up until MLS Cup presented by Audi.
If the Galaxy were to win against Houston, they would also make club history by equaling their most points in a single season (excluding the shootout era), matching their total from 2011 (67). That 2011 season for the Galaxy ended with them lifting MLS Cup by defeating Houston in the final.
With a star-studded attack of Dejan Joveljić, Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, and Riqui Puig clicking on all cylinders over the past month, LA will look to cap off their record-setting 2024 season with another milestone.
The most points in a single season in LA Galaxy history (excluding the shootout era):
Denis Bouanga One Shy of Consecutive 20 Goal Seasons
Since entering MLS in 2022, LAFC’s Denis Bouanga has been a menace in front of the net and this season is a similar story. Bouanga currently sits on 19 goals, four shy of D.C. United’s Christian Benteke (23) for the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi as he looks to mount a late comeback on Decision Day against the San Jose Earthquakes (9 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV).
Despite the many great goal scorers in the history of MLS, only four have previously had back-to-back 20-goal seasons – Zlatan Ibrahimović (2018-19), Josef Martínez (2018-19), and David Villa (2016-17). With one goal against San Jose, Bouanga would join that list and become the first LAFC player to accomplish the feat.
With a win on Decision Day and a loss by the LA Galaxy, LAFC would put themselves in a position to finish atop the Western Conference for the second time in the last three seasons.
The players to score at least 20 goals in consecutive regular seasons:
Brad Stuver Closing Out Sensational Season
One of the unsung heroes across MLS has been Austin FC goalkeeper Brad Stuver. Stuver, a Goalkeeper of the Year nominee, has made a strong case for the award by keeping Austin in multiple games this season with several heroic performances. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has already set Los Verdes’ single-season saves record with 138, but he could achieve even great success on Decision Day.
In the past 20 seasons, only three goalkeepers have produced at least 140 saves in a single regular season – Nick Rimando (146 in 2007), David Bingham (141 in 2019), and Matt Reis (141 in 2006). With two saves against the Colorado Rapids (9 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV) on the final day of the regular season, Stuver would join that elite company.
