Chicago’s Gutiérrez Lends a Helping Hand
Following a strong 2023 season in which he logged a career-best nine assists, 20-year-old Chicago Fire FC midfielder Brian Gutiérrez kicked off his 2024 campaign with a bang, collecting both a goal and an assist in the Fire’s 2-2 season-opening draw against the Philadelphia Union. A native of Berwyn, Ill., Gutiérrez has totaled 18 career assists along with five goals since entering the league in 2020.
With two more assists prior to his 21st birthday, Gutiérrez would become just the second player in MLS history to reach 20 career assists prior to turning 21 years old, joining Eddie Gaven who logged 23 prior to the milestone birthdate. The dynamic midfielder will look to add to his total as Chicago welcomes FC Cincinnati to Soldier Field for their home opener on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass).
