AMSTERDAM – Young FC Utrecht attacker Rubio Rubin will have foot surgery this week, with the club not expecting him back in action until the new year.
The US Olympic squad candidate, who last appeared for Utrecht in the final three minutes of their 1-0 Eredivisie loss at Excelsior Rotterdam on Oct. 3, is suffering from a stress fracture.
"I think his surgery will be on Wednesday," Utrecht press officer Martin Versteeg told MLSsoccer.com late on Monday afternoon. "He will probably be back in January, after the winter break."
Rubin has yet to score in six league appearances this season, but did strike in his first KNVB Cup game. He last appeared in Red, White & Blue in a pair of September friendly outings with the Under-23 side.
