NEW YORK (Monday, September 8, 2025) – FC Dallas goalkeeper Jacob Jackson was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra for Matchday 32 of the 2025 MLS season.
Jackson came off the bench as a substitute and made 12 saves to preserve a point in FC Dallas’ 1-1 draw on Saturday night against St. Louis CITY SC (Watch MLS Wrap-Up Discuss His Performance Here). After starting goalkeeper Michael Collodi received a red card in the 16th minute, Jackson was substituted on and made his debut for FC Dallas. Over the remainder of the match, Jackson recorded 12 saves, which was his career high and tied the FC Dallas club record, set by Mark Dodd on September 26, 1996. His 12 saves were also the most in MLS history by a goalkeeper making a substitute appearance, doubling the previous record of six, held by five different players. Additionally, only Matt Napoleon (12 on August 23, 1998) has produced 12 saves in their first appearance with a team.
Despite conceding in the 32nd minute to St. Louis, Dallas equalized through Petar Musa who slotted home his effort from close range into the roof of the net just two minutes later (Watch Here). Jackson then made save after save in the second half, totaling nine in a 45-minute span. These saves included a stop at close range in the 55th minute against Chris Durkin along with a sensational diving effort to parry away a bicycle kick from Brendan McSorley just eight minutes from the full-time whistle (Watch Here).
Jackson becomes the first FC Dallas player to be named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra since Musa earned the honor on Matchday 21 of 2024. Jackson is only the second goalkeeper to win the award this season, joining St. Louis CITY SC’s Roman Bürki (Matchday 3). He also becomes the fifth different goalkeeper in club history to earn the honor, alongside Jeff Cassar (Matchday 15 in 2004), D.J. Countess (Matchday 28 in 2003), Matt Jordan (Matchday 5 in 1999), and Mark Dodd (Matchday 11 in 1996).
FC Dallas will next host Austin FC in a rivalry matchup on Saturday, September 13 at Toyota Stadium (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV / Apple TV+).
The MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob Ultra is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media.
