FC Dallas midfielder Paxton Pomykal faces six-month recovery after surgery

FC Dallas midfielder Paxton Pomykal underwent successful surgery on Thursday that involved an arthroscopic labrum repair and correction of CAM impingement, the club announced.

Pomykal faces an anticipated six-month recovery period after the procedure was performed by Dr. John Christoforetti at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.

Pomykal, 20, was coming off a breakout season in which he was named a 2019 MLS All-Star. But he’s only appeared in five matches (one start) in 2020, scoring once across that stretch.

The Homegrown talent also had surgery last October to repair core muscle injuries, and departed US men’s national team camp this past January to focus on rehab.

While it’s been a stop-and-start year for Pomykal, he’s viewed as one of the top midfield prospects in MLS. He has three goals and five assists in 38 appearances, starred at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and has one senior squad cap (September 2019 friendly against Uruguay).
