Former New England Revolution defender Michael Mancienne has returned to England, signing with Burton Albion for the remainder of the 2021 season, the League One club announced Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Mancienne, whose contract option was declined by the Revs in December, has a wealth of experience playing in England. The London native came up through the Chelsea youth system and combined for 262 appearances for Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest, while also spending three seasons with Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga.
Mancienne was signed by the Revs on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest, where he had 135 first-team appearances, midway through the 2018 season. He started 27 of the 31 regular season matches he appeared in over a three-year stretch with New England.
Burton Albion, coached by legendary Dutch attacker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, are in a relegation battle in League One, currently in last place and five points below the line.
