Jermaine Jones will not get a chance to suit up for the USMNT in the country of his birth. Not this month, anyway.
Hours after being named to the US roster for their upcoming friendlies at the Netherlands and Germany, Jones was ruled out of the camp after suffering a groin injury in the first half of the New England Revolution’s 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy on Sunday night.
US manager Jurgen Klinsmann has no plans to replace the 33-year-old midfielder – who was born in Frankfurt and spent 15 seasons playing in Germany – on the roster, which is currently gathering in Amsterdam ahead of Friday’s match against the Netherlands (2 pm ET; ESPN, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN, UniMás, UDN).
The US will follow up Friday’s contest with a quick trip east to Cologne, where they’ll face defending World Cup champions Germany on Wednesday, June 10 (2:45 pm ET, FOX Sports 1, UniMás, UDN).
