It may have taken Seattle Sounders rookie Jordan Morris some time to get going in his debut season, but now he’s on something of a hot streak.
Morris is so on fire, in fact, that he is just one game away from matching the MLS rookie scoring streak, according to data from the Elias Sports Bureau.
The standing record for consecutive games with a goal by a rookie is four, which was achieved by Jamaican international Damani Ralph in 2003 with the Chicago Fire and by current New York City FC forward Patrick Mullins in 2014 while with the New England Revolution.
Morris has three goals in three games, including a crucial game-winner on Saturday to lift the Sounders 1-0 over Columbus Crew SC. The Stanford alum’s other goals came as the lone goal in a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids and a game-winner in a 2-1 home win past the Philadelphia Union (video above).
Morris, 21, is in plenty of good company right now – though the list of rookies with three goals in three games is crowded, the last time it happened was last year with Orlando City SC’s Cyle Larin. The 2015 MLS Rookie of the Year managed the feat on three separate occasions on his way to scoring the most ever goals by a rookie (17).
