The LA Galaxy revealed that they will be without one of their key players in the MLS is Back Tournament, announcing Wednesday that midfielder Jonathan dos Santos will undergo minimally invasive hernia surgery that will keep him out for six weeks.
Dos Santos, 30, has been a key part of the Galaxy's central midfield engine, often as a holding midfielder, since joining the club in July 2017. The Mexican international has made 65 appearances (63 starts) for the Galaxy, with 5 goals and 12 assists to his name.
Perry Kitchen is the player most likely to fill in at the defensive midfield spot for the Galaxy, having started the team's first game of the season in that spot before replacing dos Santos off the bench in their second and final game before MLS's suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club also signed Panamanian youth international Carlos Harvey from their USL Championship affiliate last week, who will provide additional cover at the position.
