Minnesota United have their sights set on the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, but New Mexico United stand on their way in a tricky quarterfinal tilt at Allianz Field Wednesday night.

Minnesota United

The Loons did what no MLS team has been able to do this year to reach the USOC quarterfinals for the first time â€” beat the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium. The defending U.S. Open Cup champs, though, got off to a quick lead on goals by Ronaldo Peña and Tomas Martinez to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime. But the second half belonged to Minnesota. Darwin Quintero struck for a brace to level and Mason Toye scored the 89th-minute winner.

The Loons are coming off a 3-2 win over the Montreal Impact Saturday at Stade Saputo. They again rallied from an early deficit and Toye again provided the heroics with a brace. His second goal came two minutes into the second half and after Ethan Finlay equalized from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.

New Mexico United

New Mexico United are making the most of a first-ever appearance in the USOC. After advancing on penalty kicks against the Colorado Rapids, they knocked off FC Dallas, 2-1, at Southern Methodist University in the Round of 16 June 19. Kevaughn Frater leveled for the USL Championship side just before halftime four minutes after Brandon Servania opened the scoring for FC Dallas. Sam Hamilton scored the lone goal of the second half in the 64th minute to keep the magical run alive.

New Mexico United are coming off a 1-0 loss to Real Monarchs Saturday with Maikel Chang scoring the lone goal from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.
