Revolution top Quakes in Tucson
The New England Revolution came out on top in the first preseason friendly of the day, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 in Tucson. Kelyn Rowe and Charlie Davies had the goals for the Revs. Simon Dawkins and Andres Imperiale made their first appearances for the Quakes since joining the team in the offseason.

Mattocks brace knocks off rival Sounders
Vancouver forward Darren Mattocks came in at halftime and scored two goals -- a 51st minute penalty and 90th minute winner -- to pace the Whitecaps to a 2-1 preseason win over Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders. Darwin Jones scored a momentary equalizer for the Sounders in the 76th minute.
The Whitecaps were playing with several absences -- six players on international duty and four more out injured -- and it proved an opportunity for 15-year-old residency attacker Alphonso Davies to get 29 minutes of action.
Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins and Nelson Haedo Valdez started the match in attack for the Sounders, who couldn't find the back of the net in a scoreless first half.
Giovinco on the mark for Toronto FC
Reigning MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco scored the opening goal in the 31st minute, the first in a 3-0 Toronto FC victory over the Ventura County Fusion at Anteater Stadium. TFC Homegrown forward Jordan Hamilton, who came on at halftime, netted the other two.
Timbers, Dynamo draw in desert
A pair of Colombian attackers found the back of the net as the defending MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers and the Houston Dynamo finished tied 1-1 at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona.
Dairon Asprilla gave the Timbers their first preseason goal in the 34th-minute strike, while the Dynamo needed to wait until the 74th minute for the equalizer as former Colombian Under-20 forward Mauro Manotas
Dynamo stars Will Bruin, Cristian Maidana and Ricardo Clark did not feature for their club, missing the contest due to what the team called "minor ailments."
