TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Sporting Kansas City have made a bid of around $1.1 million for Molde FK center back Stian Gregersen, according to a report from Norweigian outlet Nettavisen.
Further, their report claims that Sporting made a previous offer of around $800,000 in November for the 25-year-old that was rejected. Gregersen’s yet to make his senior-team debut with Norway, but was called into their November Nations League camp after impressing with his Eliteserien (first division) side.
Center back is a pressing need for Sporting this offseason, especially since veterans Matt Besler and Winston Reid both aren’t returning from 2020’s squad. That leaves Sporting with Andreu Fontas and Roberto Puncec as their most experienced central defenders, while Graham Smith has shifted in and out of the lineup the past three seasons.
Gregersen has three goals and two assists in 77 games for Molde FK across all competitions, including Champions League and Europa League action. He’s also spent time on loan at IF Elfsborg and Kristiansund BK, two other clubs in Scandinavia.
Should Gregersen come to Sporting, he’d look to help Sporting build off a 2020 season where they earned the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed. However, the Peter Vermes-led bunch then exited the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs in the Conference Semifinal round, allowing three goals in back-to-back games against San Jose and Minnesota.
