The Montreal Impact announced that midfielder Ignacio Piatti will undergo a procedure in Argentina on Thursday to treat tendinitis in his left knee.
According to the team, the bursectomy will require an eight-week recovery period. As a result, he is expected to be available for the start of Montreal's training camp next year, as well as the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, against Liga MX side Pachuca, which begins in late-February.
"After consulting doctors in Montreal and in Argentina, Ignacio has decided to undergo this minor procedure in order to be ready for next season," executive vice president of soccer operations Richard Legendre said in a team statement. "It is a procedure that is very often done amongst soccer players in Europe and South America, with a very high success rate."

Following his arrival with the Impact in August, the Argentine Designated Player tallied four goals and an assist in six starts in the regular season and two assists in two CONCACAF Champions League group-stage games.
