The New England Revolution have signed forward Edward Kizza, their first-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, it was announced Friday.
Kizza was taken No. 24 overall after scoring 31 goals in 53 appearances at the University of Pittsburgh from 2017-19. The 22-year-old led the Panthers in scoring during his sophomore and junior seasons, and was a two-time All-ACC First-Team selection. He attended Montverde Academy before heading to Pitt.
Kizza, who’s originally from Uganda, gives New England depth at forward beyond Adam Buksa and Gustavo Bou, two of their three Designated Players. They also have veteran Teal Bunbury and homegrown Justin Rennicks as players who can play the No. 9 role.
In past seasons, New England have found success via the SuperDraft. Their recent haul includes center back Henry Kessler and winger/outside back Tajon Buchanan, who are now both in contention for their respective national teams.
