TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signings
The New England Revolution have signed defender Jon Bell and midfielder Maciel from their USL League One affiliate Revolution II, the club announced Monday.
Both players featured extensively in USL League One action and become the second and third players to sign for the first team from Revs II, following defender Collin Verfurth.
“Jon and Maciel showed great potential last season with Revolution II and have performed well over the last several weeks in preseason training with our first team,” sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a club statement. “They have both earned this opportunity to join our MLS roster and we look forward to seeing them continue their development here in New England.”
Bell, a 23-year-old center back, started 15 for Revs II last year. He played collegiately at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, making 56 appearances over four years. He figures to add depth in central defense with the likes of Andrew Farrell, Henry Kessler and Verfurth.
Maciel, 21, played in all 16 games for Revs II. He joined the club after developing in the academy of Brazilian club Botafogo. The central midfielder is a native of Rio de Janeiro.
New England open the 2021 season on April 17, against Chicago Fire FC.
