Paxton Pomykal's soccer ability isn't the only thing about him that's advanced beyond his years.
FC Dallas' 20-year-old wunderkind showed up to his club's 2-0 season-opening victory over the Philadelphia Union at Toyota Stadium on Saturday sporting a new-look mustache. And given the youngster's standout performance against Philly, which included a game-sealing late goal where he dribbled his way through a pack of defenders, the 'stache might be here to stay.
"New season, new me, I guess," Pomykal said after the game. "We came back from [preseason in] Chula Vista and I had everything filled in and I just shaved everything but the ‘stache, kinda like it, so I kept it. Scored tonight with it, so all power to the mustache."
It's a Freddie Mercury-esque look, which is appropriate given what Pomykal also revealed as his pregame pump-up song that was also played after he scored his goal (which you can watch below).
"I chose "Another One Bites the Dust", Queen, that’s one of my all-time faves," he said. "I listen to it before every game. It’s a cool song to play after you score, too, because it’s [literally] like another one bites the dust as well, too, so a little double meaning behind it."
Power to the 'stache, indeed, Paxton. In the name of content, here's to hoping the young midfielder continues to sport the new look.
