TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Roster Update
The Philadelphia Union are parting ways with English forward Jay Simpson and 2016 first-round MLS SuperDraft picks Josh Yaro and Fabian Herbers.
The Union on Monday announced the seven contract options they have picked up for the 2019 season, bringing the club's total number of players under contract to 17. Simpson, Yaro and Herbers were among the players whose options were not picked up, news that was not surprising but still notable considering the circumstances under which each arrived at Talen Energy Stadium.
The Union also declined Fabinho's contract option, but are in negotiations with the veteran defender about a new deal.
Simpson arrived in 2017 and was projected as the club's primary forward for that season was never able to lock down a starting spot. He leaves having scored three league goals in two seasons across 30 league appearances.
Meanwhile, Yaro and Herbers were taken second and sixth overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, though both saw their involvement decrease over time. Yaro did not see the field in 2018 league play, while Herbers made nine appearances.
