Portland Timbers star midfielder Diego Valeri underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee on Monday evening outside Portland, and is expected to miss five months of action while recovering from the injury.
Valeri, 28, suffered the injury in the 26th minute of the team’s 2-0 win over FC Dallas on Oct. 25 in a collision with FCD’s Andres Escobar. Valeri was taken out of the game at halftime, and the club revealed in the days following the match that the injury was serious enough to require surgery.

Timbers chief medical officer Dr. Richard Edelson performed the procedure at the Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center in Tigard, Oregon. 
Valeri will begin rehabilitation immediately with Timbers sports medicine staff at Providence Park and at the Providence Sports Care Center.
In his second season with the Timbers, Valeri played in 33 games (32 starts), establishing Timbers MLS single-season record marks with 11 goals and 14 assists, including three multi-assist performances. He was also named a 2014 MLS All-Star and delivered the game-winning assist in a 2-1 victory over FC Bayern Munich on Aug. 6 at Providence Park.
