TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
The Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls completed a draft-day trade on Sunday, announcing that RBNY have sent Chicago the MLS rights to midfielder Amando Moreno.
The move makes Moreno the âplayer to be named laterâ in the transaction that sent the No. 32 overall pick in Fridayâs 2019 MLS SuperDraft in Chicago to the Red Bulls, a selection they used to draft Indiana University product Rece Buckmaster.
âAmando is a young player who has already played in more than 50 professional games in both the United States and Mexico,â said Fire president and GM Nelson Rodriguez in a club release. âHe drives hard to goal, is shifty and has an appetite for hard work. We think he will compete well in our environment.â
A product of the Red Bulls academy who began his professional career by signing a Homegrown Player deal in 2013, Moreno moved south to join Liga MXâs Club Tijuana the following year.
The former US Under-20 international spent four seasons with Xolos as well as second-tier side Dorados de Sinaloa before returning home last year to join RBNY II, the Red Bullsâ USL side, where he racked up 11 goals and four assists in 30 appearances.
