It was one of the big plays of a scoreless first half in the MLS is Back Tournament Round of 16 match between Orlando City and the Montreal Impact.
In the 45th minute Jhegson Mendez poked the ball home after a give-and-go in the box with Orlando teammate Tesho Akindele, but assistant referee Nick Uranga raised his flag to signal an offside on Akindele and the goal did not count. Watch the play below.
Akindele later made up for the offside call with a game-winning goal in the second half that helped carry Orlando into the tournament quarterfinals.
The Video Assistant Referee Allen Chapman checked the play, as with all key plays, but the check did not determine a clear and obvious error that would have resulted in a formal Video Review.
