Atletico Madrid are interested in the services of Newcastle United midfielder and former Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron, according to reports out of Paraguay.
Paraguayan reporter Miguel Angel Caceres was the first to report the interest of the Spanish giants in Almiron on Thursday.
Almiron's agent, Daniel Campo, later commented on the report, saying that while there hasn't been anything official regarding the player, he has communicated with Atletico manager Diego Simeone.
Almiron has been with Newcastle since 2019, joining the Premier League side from Atlanta United after helping lead the Five Stripes to the MLS Cup title in 2018. His EPL tenure got off to a slow start, as he went scoreless in 10 appearances and suffered a season-ending hamstring injury at the back end of the 2019 season. He seemed to take a step forward this season, however, scoring seven times in 37 appearances across all competitions, including this sublime finish in Newcastle's 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on Wednesday.
