TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
As Greg Vanney continues preparations for his first season as head coach of the LA Galaxy, a report out of Italy suggests he may call on a familiar face in Sebastian Giovinco.
Giovinco left MLS ahead of the 2019 season, joining Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal. The 33-year-old has so far scored 11 goals in 45 games with the Saudi Pro League side, where he won the league in 2019-20 and won the AFC Champions League in 2019.
Vanney and Giovinco worked together at Toronto FC for the entirety of the forward's spell with the club, which went from the 2015 season through the 2018 season. During that spell, the club became the first in MLS to win the treble in 2017, winning the Supporters' Shield, Canadian Championship and MLS Cup. Giovinco also enjoyed huge individual success during the spell, winning the Golden Boot and MVP honors in his first season in the league.
Vanney and the Galaxy could certainly use someone with Giovinco's MLS scoring record. The Galaxy scored only 27 goals in 22 games in 2020, and will be looking for an improvement in 2021 as they seek to return to former glories.
