The Portland Timbers are finalizing a deal with Pumas UNAM over the permanent transfer of Felipe Mora, sources tell MLSsoccer.com. The clubs have agreed to terms and are close to completing the deal.
A source previously told MLSsoccer.com that there was a $4 million purchase option in Mora's original loan agreement, but Portland and Pumas agreed to a new figure with the Liga MX side retaining a portion of his rights.
Mora, 27, was on loan with Portland in 2020. He had seven goals and two assists over 19 appearances (13 starts). The forward is a Chilean international with five caps.
With Designated Player Jaroslaw Niezgoda out injured with a torn ACL suffered in November, Mora will continue to see plenty of opportunities to lead the line in Portland. He and US international Jeremy Ebobisse will likely see the majority of the minutes, though Ebobisse has also excelled as a winger during his young career.
The Timbers are off to a busy start this winter. They acquired Argentine left back Claudio Bravo while trading Marco Farfan to LAFC and Julio Cascante to Austin FC.
