TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signings
Sporting Kansas City added three new homegrown players on Wednesday, signing midfielder Grayson Barber, forward Ozzie Cisneros and goalkeeper Brooks Thompson to multiyear contracts.
Barber, 20, joins SKC after playing three seasons of college soccer at Clemson University but was previously part of the club's academy. In 49 games at Clemson, Barber recorded 13 goals and 18 assists while also making it to the 2019 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and won the 2020 ACC Championship.
Cisneros, 16, has represented SKC from the under-13 to the under-19 levels and becomes the fourth-youngest player to sign with the first team. The forward is also a youth international, featuring for the United States' under-13 and under-15 boys' teams.
"I’m extremely happy to sign a contract with the first team at Sporting KC," Cisneros said in a team release. "This been a dream of mine ever since I first joined the Academy and I’m ready to work my hardest for the club."
Thompson, 18, joined the SKC academy in 2018 and has since spent two seasons with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship. In the 2020 season, Thompson made 26 saves in six matches and averaged 1.17 goals against. He also posted a career-best nine saves in his opening match of the 2020 season against Indy Eleven.
The signing of the trio means the SKC first team currently boasts 10 homegrown players, with their roster having an average age of exactly 25.
