A little over eight months after hoisting their first trophy in front of their fans, Atlanta United will get a chance to do it again at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
After defeating rivals Orlando City 2-0 in the first of two U.S. Open Cup semifinals this week, the defending MLS Cup champs advanced to the final on August 27 when they will host Minnesota United or the Portland Timbers who do battle at Allianz Field on Wednesday for the other USOC final berth (8 pm ET | ESPN+).
Prior to the semifinals, the US Soccer Federation held a draw to determine the hosting scenarios for the 106th final in Open Cup tournament history.
Atlanta won the hosting priority draw, granting them the first priority to host the final as long as they defeated Orlando City in the semis. Minnesota and Orlando were drawn as the next two in line with a chance to host in the case Atlanta were eliminated.
Two weeks before the Open Cup final, Atlanta United will be hosting yet another title match when they welcome Mexican giants Club America for the 2019 Campeones Cup, the annual match that pits the MLS champion against the best of Liga MX (Wed., Aug. 14 at 8 pm ET).
Atlanta captured the first hardware in club history last December 8, defeating the Portland Timbers 2-0 in 2018 MLS Cup, which was played in front of the largest crowd in MLS history (73,019) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
