Chris Wondolowski may have set a new mark for striking consistency on Saturday night, but that was only the beginning of a monumental Week 24 for forwards that also saw Fredy Montero and David Villa assail the history books.
Two hours before Wondo equalized from the spot for San Jose to secure a league-record eighth consecutive season with 10 or more goals, Vancouver's Montero also finished off a penalty to become the first to hit double-digit goals in each of his first five campaigns. Only two other players have done that in each of their first three seasons: the aforementioned Villa and Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco.
Not to be outdone, New York City's Villa on Sunday hit his 19th of goal the season, bringing him within a goal of becoming the first MLS player in history to score 20 or more goals in back-to-back campaigns. Of the 19 players to post 20-plus goals in an MLS season, only Bradley Wright-Phillips has done it twice, tying Wondolowski and Roy Lassiter's record with 27 goals in 2014, and then scoring 24 last season.
