Dempsey is among the most dangerous attacking players the US has ever produced. Deuce's savvy is undeniable as is his flair for the dramatic. His dribbling tricks and movement off the ball consistently vex opposing defenders, helping to create scoring opportunities for him and his teammates. He finished 2017 as the team's regular season top scorer while also recording five assists.
INTERNATIONAL: Dempsey is one of the most decorated players in the history of the US national team, occupying 2nd place in the all-time goals list for the USA. His 120 caps entering 2017 are the sixth-most in USMNT history and he has been a member of three different World Cup teams (2006, 2010, 2014). While captaining the team in 2014, Dempsey scored two goals, including one inside a minute of the first game vs. Ghana. He most recently scored seven goals at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
OUTSIDE MLS: After three seasons with the New England Revolution (2004-2006), Dempsey transferred to Fulham of the English Premier League for a then-record fee for an MLS player (December 2006) and he quickly became a fan favorite to the tune of 50 EPL goals over five-and-a-half seasons, including a goal that virtually saved the club from relegation in May 2007.
But his most famous goal came in the 2009-'10 Europa League Round of 16 when he scored on an incredible series-clinching chip to lead Fulham over Italian giants Juventus. He would also eventually become the first American to play in a major European final, when Fulham lost to Atletico Madrid in May 2010.
Deuce transferred to another London club (Aug. 31, 2012), Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances (22 starts) before transferring to Seattle.
COLLEGE: A three-year star at Furman, Dempsey helped the Paladins to two NCAA tournament berths and finished his college career with 17 goals and 19 assists. He went pro after his junior season, signing a Generation adidas contract with MLS.
