A young exciting winger who can play on either side of the pitch, Déiber Caicedo adds speed and dribbling ability to the Whitecaps FC attack after beginning his career with Deportivo Cali in Colombia’s top-flight CategorÃa Primera A.
Caicedo joined Whitecaps FC in January 2021 via transfer from Cali, agreeing to a three-year contract through 2023, with a club option for 2024. In August 2023, Caicedo agreed to a contract extension through 2024, with an option for 2025, and was loaned to Colombian CategorÃa Primera A side Junior FC through July 31, 2024. The loan agreement includes an option to purchase.
WHITECAPS FC
'23: After recovering from successful right knee surgery, Caicedo returned to the pitch in the ‘Caps 1-1 away draw at Minnesota United FC on March 25. The Colombian went on to register two starts and 21 appearances across all competitions, adding one assist. On August 3, Caicedo was signed to a contract extension through 2024, with an option for 2025, and was subsequently loaned to Colombian CategorÃa Primera A side Junior FC through July 31, 2024.Â
'22: Despite recording a goal and four assists in 12 starts and 19 appearances across all competitions, Caicedo saw his 2022 campaign cut short as he suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee against New England Revolution on June 26. The Colombian would later undergo successful right knee surgery on July 7, keeping him on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
'21: Caicedo showed plenty of promise in his first MLS season, finishing third on the team in goals with five and leading the team in assists with seven in 24 starts from 34 appearances, including playoffs. When Caicedo notched a goal or assist in MLS play, the ‘Caps posted a 6W-1L-4D record. Eight of the Colombian’s twelve goal contributions came in matches where the 'Caps came back to secure points (three goals, five assists). The young, crafty winger was named to MLS’ annual 22 Under 22 list, coming in at number 21 and tallying the third most goal contributions amongst players on the list. Caicedo also led the club in big chances created and dribbles completed during the regular season, both ranking him amongst the top 10 in MLS for each statistic. Caicedo also made an appearance as a substitute in the club’s Canadian Championship match against Pacific FC.
DEPORTIVO CALI
'18-'20: Prior to his arrival in Vancouver, Caicedo had spent the first three years of his professional career at Deportivo Cali. The academy product made his professional debut on February 3, 2018 at the age of 17, and 11 days later scored his first goal in his third match with the first team. In 2020, Caicedo scored three goals and added four assists in 17 league matches and added one assist in eight appearances during cup competition. He helped Los Azucareros (The Sugar Makers) reach the final of the 2019 Copa Colombia, as well as the Round of 16 of the 2020 Copa Sudamericana. Across all competitions with Cali, the Caicedo made 78 appearances including 53 starts, scored seven goals and added 13 assists.
INTERNATIONAL
The Barbacoas, Colombia native participated in U-15 camps before representing his country at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India and the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
