Atlanta United signed Santiago Sosa on Feb. 12, 2021 from Club Atlético River Plate. The midfielder started all 30 of his appearances across MLS, Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League and MLS Cup Playoffs action in his first season with the club, including all 25 of his MLS appearances. Sosa started all four of Atlanta’s SCCL matches against Alajuelense in the Round of 16 and Philadelphia Union in the quarterfinals and scored his first professional goal in the second leg against Philadelphia, a 1-1 draw.
The Argentine logged 1,409 minutes in 2022, starting 15 of his 21 MLS appearances. On Aug. 21 against Columbus Crew, Sosa scored his first MLS goal with a rocket into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Prior to joining Atlanta, Sosa had played his entire professional career with River Plate, signing with the club’s academy in 2008 and working his way through the ranks. He was elevated to the first team during the 2018-2019 season and made his professional debut in the Copa Libertadores on Aug. 30, 2018 when he entered as a substitute in a 3-0 win vs. Racing Club.
Sosa made 14 appearances in 2020, with six of them coming in the Copa Libertadores and six in the Copa Diego Armando Maradona, where he helped River win its group and advance to the Fase Campeón. During his career at River, Sosa made 14 league appearances and seven appearances in Copa Libertadores play and won three titles: he 2018 Copa Libertadores, 2019 Copa Argentina and 2019 Recopa Sudamericana.
2022 (Atlanta United): Started 15 of his 22 appearances across all competitions. MLS: Started 15 of his 21 MLS appearances, logging 1,409 minutes. Scored his first MLS goal with a long-range shot against Columbus Crew on Aug. 21. U.S. Open Cup: Made one substitute appearance against Nashville SC in Fourth Round.

2018-2020 (River Plate): Made 14 league appearances and seven appearances in Copa Libertadores play, including six during River Plate’s run to the 2019 final where it lost to Flamengo. Won the 2018 Copa Libertadores, 2019 Copa Argentina and 2019 Recopa Sudamericana. Sosa signed with the club’s academy in 2008 and worked his way through the ranks. He was elevated to the first team during the 2018-2019 season and made his professional debut in the Copa Libertadores on Aug. 30, 2018 when he entered as a substitute in a 3-0 win vs. Racing Club. The La Plata, Argentina native earned his Argentine first division debut a month later against Lanús. Sosa made 14 appearances in 2020, with six of them coming in the Copa Libertadores and six in the Copa Diego Armando Maradona, where he helped River win its group and advance to the Fase Campeón. His first assist of his professional career came in a 3-0 win against LDU Quito in the Copa Libertadores group stage.
International: Sosa made 13 appearances, 10 of them starts, with the Argentine U-20 national team dating back to 2018. He captained the side on two occasions, including once in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
