The Columbus Crew announced Wednesday that midfielder Daniel Paladini underwent successful surgery for internal fixation for a tibia and fibula fracture. Paladini is set to begin recovery immediately and is out for the remainder of the 2014 season. He will be sidelined for at least 16 weeks.
“It’s never easy to have a player suffer a serious injury, but we are pleased to learn that Daniel’s surgery was a success,” said Crew Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “We wish Daniel a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back as soon as possible.”

Paladini suffered the injury as the result of a challenge in a Tuesday training session and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
“It was a strange type of challenge,” Berhalter said after the incident on Tuesday, without specifying who else was involved in the clash. “It wasn’t necessarily a foul on either of the people, but it was just a strange challenge, a tackle.”
