Román Torres’ season with the Seattle Sounders is over just as it was getting started.
According to several reports, Torres, the Panamanian international defender who was acquired Aug. 12 from Colombian side La Equidad, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Sounders’ 1-1 draw Saturday with the San Jose Earthquakes.
The 29-year-old crumpled to the turf right before halftime after going up for a 50-50 ball, limped off the field with the help of the team trainer and was replaced by Zach Scott.
Torres was making his fourth start for the Sounders and recently came off his 94th and 95th caps for Panama in friendlies against Uruguay and Venezuela.
