NEW YORK (Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021) – Sporting Kansas City forward Daniel Sallói has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 28 of the 2021 MLS season.
Sallói scored two goals as Sporting defeated FC Dallas 3-1 at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The brace gave Sallói 15 goals for the 2021 season, now sitting in third place in the race for the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi, two goals behind leader Ola Kamara of D.C. United.
In the 13th minute, Sallói took a pass on the left side of the midfield, before turning and heading for goal. Still some 25 yards out on the right, the Hungarian international hammered a rising drive that sailed inside the right-hand post and gave Sporting an early lead.
Then in the 61st minute, Sallói took a long pass on the left flank before haring forward into the FCD penalty area, then ripped a rising drive that sailed over the ‘keeper and into the roof of the goal.
It was the second two-goal game for the SKC Homegrown product this season and the third of his MLS career.
Sallói and Sporting return to action on Sunday afternoon, when they play host to Houston Dynamo FC at Children’s Mercy Park (2:55 p.m. CT; UniMás / TUDN). Sallói will then join the Hungary national team for World Cup qualifiers vs. Albania in Budapest (Oct. 9) and England in London (Oct. 12).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
